The summer night is like a perfection of thought.  ~Wallace Stevens

The time has come.  The time when we are all back on  life schedules…waking for the kids school, sports practice, holiday shopping, homework, busy work season, cold Michigan winter weather.  Before we get to that point let us ENJOY the last week of summer!!  Hug your kids a few more times each day, sit by your garden and look past the weeds and just enjoy , try that BBQ recipe you have been putting off all summer, sit out back with your love of your life and enjoy a drink, build one last campfire, try a S’more with a Reese’s cup instead of a Hershey’s bar…try your very best to not get caught up in all the mad school shopping mad rush…ENJOY this week for it will go by way too quickly!  Lots of Love.  - Lorissa

Smiling…my summer.  I love the fort made of sandy beach towels and chairs.

A moment this summer.  There is something about this one that touches me…a true moment on the fourth of July.

Looking at these images reminds me of the beautiful days I had in Costa Rica.  The hikes in the rainforest, watching the surf, walking along the streets taking in the sounds and smells.

Take the colors in and enjoy!

These crocodiles are amazing!  This was taken with a 50mm.  I was pretty darn close to him.  I remember the friend I was with said don’t lean your camera to close or he might turn and snap…and he meant it. WOW

“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect.  It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.”

I was talking with a dear friend last night about life and that no matter how bad we think it is….it’s relative…it could be worse!  Here I sit…I am behind on edits, my car is having major issues, my garage floods with every rain, I am recovering from a broken heart, my dog has fleas, I miss my kids and I shake my head wondering why some people make the choices they make in life.  Saying that I stand back and realize how many blessings I do have….the laughter with friends, watching my boys create weapons out of legos, dancing with my daughter, fighting for what I believe in and NEVER giving up in the belief that there are more good than bad people in the world.

When I stand behind my camera the broken heart, the fleas, the car repairs…etc….fade away.  I can honestly say that photographing all my wonderful clients places things into perspective.  THANK YOU……and I may be behind on edits…and orders…and phone calls….but I am catching up!

Enjoy the photos….a mix of moments behind my camera.

The moment a child is born,
the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never.

Sitting having sushi with my dearest friend  I contemplated where I was going to go for a week.  She said Costa Rica…I said…why not.  Three weeks later I was on an adventure meeting wonderful people that taught me, laughed with me and without question changed my perception of life for the better.  I wish I could say that I took as many photos as I could…I did not.  There were many times where I sat back and took life in…many times that I was so exhausted that I fell asleep with my bed light on at 9 pm, times where I relaxed in a hammock listening to the rain come down, times where I ran into a friends room screaming because a bat had entered my room while I was in the bathroom, times I reflected on not what I wanted in life but what I was already blessed with, times I listened only and said nothing, times where being alone was for once not lonely.  Yes….as a photographer I can say I wish I could have caught those moments on camera….the woman that lived those moments says….why?….  for those moments can not be captured in a photo…they are to be a part of me forever.

Enjoy….more to come….

Pura Vida - Costa Rica

August 1, 2011

Pura Vida!!!!  Full of Life…

Arrived yesterday after a very long day of travels.  What an absolutely beautiful place.  Not only is the scenery breathtaking but the people that live here are absolutely wonderful.  So full of life and definitely know how to take life slowly and without stress.  This is exactly what I needed. A place to create and step back and breathe.

Took a trip to a local fishing village today.  Amazing.  Was able to step into the ocean …warm…warm…warm.

More to come….off to yoga.  Enjoy
